Tip: in the Code view press Ctrl+F (⌘F on Mac) to find and replace.
Paste JSON, open a file or load the sample to see the tree.
The Table view needs an array of objects. Select such an array in the tree.
Limits: files up to 200 MB (.json or .json.gz); tree and table up to 20 MB or 1,000,000 nodes. Everything runs in your browser.
JSON formatter, beautifier and JSON validator
Paste JSON or open a .json or .json.gz file to explore it as a collapsible tree, highlighted code or a table. It is also a JSON formatter and JSON validator, and it runs entirely in your browser.
How it works
Add your JSON
Paste it into the Code view, drop a .json or .json.gz file, use Open file, or try Load sample.
Explore the tree
Expand and collapse objects and arrays, search keys and values, and click any node to copy its JSONPath.
Format, validate, save
Beautify with 2 spaces, 4 spaces or tabs, minify, or validate. Copy the result or download it as a .json file.
Features
JSON formatter and beautifier
Pretty-print minified JSON or minify formatted JSON. Key order, escapes and numbers are kept exactly, so big integers are never rounded.
JSON validator with exact error position
Errors are reported with line and column and a plain-English explanation, such as a trailing comma, single quotes or a missing comma. Go to error jumps to the spot in the code.
Tree, code and table views
The tree shows types and item counts, the code view highlights syntax, and an array of objects can be viewed as a table.
Large and compressed files
Parsing runs in a Web Worker, so the page stays responsive, and .json.gz files are decompressed in the browser.
Limits & privacy
Files and pasted JSON can be up to 200 MB, including the decompressed size of a .json.gz file. Files over the limit are rejected before they are read. The tree and table views work for documents up to 20 MB or one million nodes; larger documents are shown as plain text without highlighting, where format, minify, validate, find, copy and download still work. Syntax highlighting is used up to 5 MB.
Your JSON never leaves your browser: nothing is uploaded or logged. Read more on the privacy page.
FAQ
Is this JSON viewer online free?
Yes. It is free, needs no account and has no daily limits. Your JSON is processed in your browser.
How do I open a JSON file in a readable format?
Open the file or paste its content, then click Format. The tree view is even easier to scan.
Can I open .json.gz files?
Yes. Drop or open a gzip-compressed JSON file and it is decompressed locally with the browser’s built-in decompression, then shown like any other JSON file.
Do I need a JSON viewer Chrome extension or a download?
No. This web page works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari without installing anything.
Does it work on Mac, Windows and Android?
Yes. It runs in any modern browser on macOS, Windows, Linux, Android and iOS. On a phone, tap Open file to pick a JSON file from your storage.
What is the difference between format, beautify and minify?
Format and beautify mean the same: adding line breaks and indentation. Minify removes all whitespace to make the file smaller. Neither changes the data.
How does the JSON validator report errors?
It checks strict JSON and shows the first error with its line and column. Duplicate keys and numbers that lose precision in JavaScript are shown as warnings.
