Text Tools

Plain text is everywhere – logs, exports, notes, subtitles. These tools clean it up, merge and split files, turn text into tables, JSON or XML, and convert subtitle formats, all in your browser without uploading anything.

Plain text, many jobs

A text file has no formatting of its own, which is why so many programs use it: log files, database and report exports, configuration files, lists, transcripts and subtitles. The work usually falls into a few groups, and each tool below does one of them well.

Combine and split

Merge Text Files joins many .txt, .log or .csv files into one, in the order you set, with optional file-name headers – and converts files with mixed encodings into a single one. Split Text File does the opposite for files that are too big to open or send: every N lines, into N parts, by size or at a line that matches a pattern, with the header row repeated in every part.

From text to tables and data

Split Text into Columns works like Excel’s Text to Columns wizard: delimiters, fixed widths with a ruler, regular expressions and a data format for each column. TXT to CSV detects tabs, pipes or space-aligned columns and writes clean CSV for Excel, and TXT to Excel builds an .xlsx workbook with one sheet per file. For developers, TXT to JSON and TXT to XML turn lists, key = value files and tables into structured data.

Clean up text

For quick edits of pasted text there are one-step cleaners: Remove Duplicate Lines, Sort Lines, Remove Line Breaks, Find and Replace, the Case Converter, the Word Counter and Remove HTML Tags, among others.

Subtitles

SRT to VTT and VTT to SRT convert between the two common subtitle formats, following the WebVTT specification and the SubRip conventions. SRT to TXT turns subtitles into a clean transcript, and TXT to SRT makes timed subtitles from a script.

Converting between text and HTML lives in the HTML section: HTML to Text and Text to HTML. Markdown files have their own utilities on the Markdown tools page.

FAQ

Which tool turns a text file into a spreadsheet?

For a quick CSV use TXT to CSV, for an .xlsx workbook TXT to Excel, and for full control over delimiters, fixed widths and column formats Split Text into Columns.

Can these tools handle large files?

Yes. Splitting streams files of up to 500 MB in a background worker, and merging accepts up to 300 MB in total. Big files are not loaded into the editor.

What about files in other encodings?

UTF-8 and UTF-16 with or without a byte order mark, Windows-1251, KOI8-R and Windows-1252 are detected; you can always choose the encoding yourself.

Are subtitle files text files?

Yes. SRT and WebVTT are plain text with timecodes, so they can be converted into each other, turned into a transcript or created from a script.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Every tool runs in your browser; files are read from your disk and the results are created on your device.
