Text to CSV with automatic column detection
This converter turns a text file into a CSV file. It detects how the columns are separated – tabs, pipes, semicolons, commas or aligned spaces – and writes clean CSV in the dialect you need, for example Excel with a BOM.

How it works
Open the text
Paste a report, a log or an export, or open a .txt, .dat or .tsv file up to 100 MB.
Check the detected columns
The structure is detected automatically; override it if needed and set the header row, trimming and empty lines.
Download the CSV
Pick standard CSV, Excel, Excel for semicolon locales or TSV, then download or copy. Or pass the CSV on to CSV to JSON.
Features
Automatic structure detection
Delimiters used the same number of times on every line are found first; text aligned in columns with spaces is cut at the gaps.
Values kept exactly
Values are written as they appear: 00417 stays 00417 and 1,234.50 is not reinterpreted. Fields with commas, quotes or line breaks are quoted.
CSV for every program
RFC 4180 CSV, Excel CSV with a UTF-8 BOM, semicolon-separated CSV for German, Spanish or Portuguese Excel, or tab-separated values.
Protection against CSV injection
Cells starting with =, +, - or @ get an apostrophe by default, so opening the file cannot run a spreadsheet formula.
Encodings
UTF-8, UTF-16, Windows-1252 and Windows-1251 input is detected; the CSV is UTF-8.
Limits & privacy
Files up to 100 MB; the table shows the first 1,000 rows, the CSV contains all of them. Files over 5 MB are converted in a background worker without loading them into the editor. Nothing is uploaded. See the privacy page.
FAQ
How do I convert a TXT file to CSV?
Open the .txt file, check the table preview and click Download CSV. If the columns are wrong, choose how they are separated in Columns are separated by.
My text uses spaces to line up columns. Will that work?
Yes. Space-aligned columns are detected and cut where every line has a gap, so values with single spaces, like "Laptop Pro", stay together.
How do I open the CSV in Excel correctly?
Choose the Excel dialect. It adds a byte order mark so accents display correctly; use the semicolon variant if your Excel uses a decimal comma.
Can each line become one row with one column?
Choose Nothing – one line per row. Every line is written as a single quoted field when needed.
What is the difference to Text to Columns?
TXT to CSV detects the layout and focuses on the CSV file. Text to Columns gives full control: fixed-width breaks, regex and per-column data formats.
