Text files to an XLSX workbook

This converter turns one or more text files into an Excel .xlsx workbook. Columns are detected in each file, every file becomes its own sheet, and numbers become real number cells while codes with leading zeros stay text.

How it works

  1. Add text files

Paste text or drop up to 50 .txt files – tab-separated, pipe-separated or aligned with spaces.

  2. Check each sheet

Select a file in the list to preview its sheet. Choose whether values become numbers or stay text and how numbers are written.

  3. Download the workbook

Download one .xlsx with a sheet per file, a frozen header row and fitted column widths.

Features

  • One sheet per file

Several exports become one workbook; sheet names come from the file names and are made valid for Excel automatically.

  • Typed cells

Numbers like 1,234.50 or 9,90 (with the separators you set) are written as numbers, so sums and filters work right away.

  • No unwanted conversions

Codes such as 00172 keep their zeros, long IDs stay text, and only ISO dates (2026-10-22) become dates – "04-2026" is never turned into a date.

  • Ready to use

The header row is frozen and column widths fit the content. Very long tables continue on extra sheets after Excel's row limit.

  • Safe text cells

Text is written as text cells, so a value like =HYPERLINK(…) is never stored as a formula.

Limits & privacy

Up to 50 files, each up to 50 MB, 100 MB in total; the preview shows the first 1,000 rows of the selected file. Excel allows 1,048,576 rows per sheet – longer tables continue on another sheet. The workbook is created by SheetJS in a background worker in your browser; nothing is uploaded. See the privacy page.

FAQ

How do I convert a TXT file to Excel?

Drop the .txt file, check the sheet preview and click Download XLSX. Columns are detected from tabs, pipes, semicolons or aligned spaces.

Can I put several text files into one Excel file?

Yes. Drop all of them; the workbook gets one sheet per file in the order of the list.

Why does Excel drop the zeros of my codes?

When Excel opens a text file it guesses types. This tool writes 00172 as a text cell, so the zeros stay.

Can I keep everything as text?

Choose Values: Everything as text. Every cell is written exactly as in the file.

What about decimal commas?

Set the decimal separator to 1234,56 and the thousands separator to 1.234 in the number settings; 1.234,56 then becomes the number 1234.56.
