Files never leave your browserHow?

Paste or open JSON and download a real .xlsx workbook with typed cells, a frozen header row and readable column widths. The file is created in your browser.

How it works

  1. Open or paste JSON

Paste JSON, open a .json or .jsonl file, load one from a URL or use the sample. The array of records is found automatically.

  2. Review the table

Check the table preview, hide or reorder columns, name the sheet and decide how nested arrays are handled.

  3. Download the XLSX

Press Download .XLSX and open the file in Excel, LibreOffice Calc, Numbers or Google Sheets.

Features

  • Typed cells

Numbers stay numbers, true and false become Excel booleans, and ISO dates such as 2024-03-01 become date cells. Text like 007 keeps its leading zeros, and very long numbers stay exact as text.

  • Nested data

Nested objects become dotted columns such as customer.name. Arrays become one column per item, one column with JSON text, or values joined with a semicolon.

  • Nested arrays as sheets

Optionally, arrays of objects inside each record, such as order lines, go to their own sheet. The rows are linked by _id and _parent_id columns.

  • Ready to work with

The header row is frozen and column widths fit the content. Above 1,048,576 rows, Excel's limit, the data continues on extra sheets.

  • No formulas, no surprises

Text is always stored as text, so a value starting with = is never run as a formula when the workbook is opened.

Limits & privacy

JSON files can be up to 100 MB and up to 500,000 rows are written to the workbook; very large workbooks may open slowly in Excel. Files above 5 MB are converted from the file without loading them into the editor.

Excel limits apply: 16,384 columns per sheet and 32,767 characters per cell; longer cells are cut and you are told. Styles, charts and formulas are not created. See the privacy page.

FAQ

How do I convert JSON to Excel?

Paste your JSON or open the file, check the table preview and press Download .XLSX. The workbook is created on your device.

How do I open a JSON file in Excel?

Excel cannot open JSON directly without Power Query. Convert the file here to .xlsx and open the result in Excel like any other workbook.

Can I turn JSON into an Excel table with columns?

Yes. Every key becomes a column with its name in the frozen first row, and records with different keys are merged into one set of columns.

What is the difference between JSON to Excel and JSON to XLSX?

None here: the converter creates the modern .xlsx format, which every current version of Excel opens.

Is this JSON to Excel converter online free?

Yes, it is free, without sign-up and without a watermark.

Are dates and numbers kept as numbers?

Yes. Numbers and booleans get their own cell types and ISO dates become Excel dates. Turn off Dates as Excel dates to keep them as text.

Is my JSON uploaded?

No. The spreadsheet is generated in your browser and the data never leaves your device.
