Strip HTML tags and convert HTML to plain text
This tool removes HTML tags and keeps the readable text, with paragraphs, line breaks, lists and tables laid out as plain text. Paste HTML source or open an .html file and copy the text.

How it works
Paste HTML
Paste a page source, an email template, a CMS export or a fragment, or open an .html file.
Choose the layout
Keep line breaks, list bullets and tab-separated table cells, and optionally link addresses and image alt text.
Copy the text
Plain text appears as you type, with counts of removed tags, dropped script blocks and decoded entities.
Features
Parsed safely
The HTML goes through the site's sanitizer (DOMPurify) in an inert document: nothing in it loads or runs. Scripts, styles, templates and embedded objects are dropped with their content, so no code ends up in the text.
Text the way a page shows it
Paragraphs and headings are separated by a blank line, <br> and block elements start a new line, whitespace is collapsed as in a browser and <pre> blocks keep their spacing.
Lists and tables
List items get "- " or "1. " markers with indentation for nested lists, and table rows become lines with tab-separated cells that paste cleanly into a spreadsheet.
Entities decoded
&, , —, © and the other character references become the characters they stand for.
Links and images
Keep link addresses as "text (https://…)" and image alt text in [brackets] when you need them.
Limits & privacy
Text and files can be up to 200 MB. HTML typed or pasted (up to 256 KB) is parsed with the sanitizer on the page; longer text and files above 8 MB use a streaming tokenizer in a background worker that follows the same layout rules and decodes the common named entities (HTML 4 set plus frequent HTML5 ones) and all numeric ones.
The result is plain text, not Markdown; to convert HTML to Markdown use a dedicated converter. To keep the layout instead – headings, nested bullets, links as numbered footnotes, aligned tables, wrapped lines – use HTML to Text. Hidden elements styled with CSS are still included, because styles are not applied.
Your HTML is processed in the browser and never uploaded. See the privacy page.
FAQ
How do I strip HTML tags from text?
Paste the HTML into the input. The result shows the text without tags; copy or download it.
Is it safe to paste untrusted HTML?
Yes. The HTML is never rendered: it is sanitized and parsed in an inert document, and the result is shown as plain text. Scripts in it do not run.
Are line breaks kept?
Yes, by default. Turn off "Keep line breaks" to get all text on one line.
What happens to the content of script and style tags?
It is removed together with the tags, because it is code, not text a reader sees.
Can I keep the links?
Turn on "Keep link addresses" and each link is followed by its address in parentheses.
Can it convert a large HTML file?
Yes. Files above 8 MB are converted in a background worker with a streaming parser, chunk by chunk.
