Strip HTML tags, keep the structure
This converter turns HTML into plain text that keeps the structure of the page: paragraphs, headings, nested lists with bullets, tables as aligned columns and links as numbered footnotes [1], wrapped to the line width you choose.

How it works
Paste or open HTML
Paste HTML code, open an .html file or download a page by URL. The sample is an HTML newsletter.
Choose the text style
Decide how links, headings, lists, tables and hidden elements are written, and whether lines are wrapped.
Copy the text
Copy the plain text or download it as a .txt file; it updates as you change options.
Features
Structure, not a tag soup
Blocks are separated by blank lines, <br> breaks lines, list items get "-" or numbers with nesting, and <pre> keeps its spacing.
Links your way
Keep only the link text, write "text (URL)", or collect numbered URLs at the end like a footnote list for plain-text e-mail.
Tables as columns
Table cells become tab-separated columns that paste straight into a spreadsheet, or columns aligned with spaces for reading.
No scripts, no styles
script, style, template, head and form controls are dropped; elements hidden with hidden or display:none can be skipped or kept.
Entities decoded
&, and numeric entities become the real characters; non-breaking spaces can turn into normal spaces.
Limits & privacy
HTML up to 20 MB. For quick tag stripping of very large files (up to 200 MB, streamed) use Remove HTML Tags. Parsing uses the browser’s DOMParser in the page (it is not available in workers), so very large documents can take a moment. Nothing is uploaded; pages opened by URL are downloaded directly into your browser. See the privacy page.
FAQ
How do I convert HTML to plain text?
Paste the HTML or open the file. The text appears on the right; copy it or download a .txt file.
Are line breaks kept?
Yes. Paragraphs, headings, list items, <br> and table rows each start a new line, with blank lines between blocks.
Can I keep the links?
Choose Links: Text (URL) to write the address after the link text, or Numbered list at the end for footnote-style references.
Is it safe to paste HTML from an unknown source?
Yes. The HTML is parsed inertly: scripts never run, images and styles are not loaded and nothing is rendered on this page.
What happens to hidden text?
Elements hidden with the hidden attribute or an inline display:none, such as e-mail preheaders, are skipped unless you include them.
What is the difference to Remove HTML Tags?
Remove HTML Tags only deletes the tags and keeps the text as it is. HTML to Text rebuilds the layout: headings, bullets, link footnotes, aligned tables and line wrapping.
How do I convert text back to HTML?
Use Text to HTML: it escapes special characters and builds paragraphs, line breaks and links.
