How it works
Paste HTML
Paste markup, open an .html file or load a page by URL (the site must allow CORS).
Choose the Markdown style
Heading style, list marker, emphasis, code fence, inline or reference links, complex tables flattened or kept as HTML.
Copy the Markdown
Use it in docs, wikis or as clean input for an LLM; the preview shows the result.
Features
Sanitized first
The HTML is parsed in an inert document and cleaned by DOMPurify before conversion: scripts, styles and event handlers never run or reach the output.
Code languages
<pre><code class="language-js"> and similar classes (lang-, highlight-source-) become ```js fences.
GFM extensions
Tables with alignment, strikethrough, task list checkboxes, footnote sections and GitHub alerts.
Turndown-style options
Heading style, bullet marker, emphasis delimiter, fence and link style are options in the page, not only in code.
Limits & privacy
Files up to 10 MB. Inputs above 256 KB are converted in a Web Worker. Nothing is uploaded: the conversion runs in your browser, and Open from URL fetches the file directly from the address you enter. See the privacy page.
Limits
Converting only a table? HTML Table to Markdown picks one table from a page and has table-specific options. Layout markup (divs, spans, inline styles) is dropped; only the content structure remains. Forms and embedded media become links or text. Underline, superscript and subscript stay as HTML tags unless you turn that option off.
FAQ
How do I convert a web page to Markdown?
Paste its HTML or enter the URL in Open from URL. Many sites block cross-origin requests; then save the page and open the file.
Are scripts and styles removed?
Yes. Script, style, iframe and form content is removed by the sanitizer, so only the content is converted.
What happens to tables with merged cells?
Markdown tables cannot merge cells. They are flattened with a warning, or kept as HTML if you choose that option.
Can I get text-only Markdown for an LLM?
Turn off Keep images and use inline links; the result is compact Markdown without image references.
Can I convert Markdown back to HTML?
Yes, with Markdown to HTML, linked above the result.
