Files never leave your browserHow?

This HTML to Markdown table converter finds the tables in HTML markup and rewrites one of them as a GitHub Flavored Markdown table. Paste the HTML, pick a table and copy the Markdown.

How it works

  1. Paste HTML

Paste page source or copied table markup, drop an .html file, or open a page from a URL. The HTML is sanitized before it is read.

  2. Pick the table

Every table of the page is listed with its caption or first header cells. Choose how merged cells and formatting are handled.

  3. Copy the Markdown

Copy the table or download a .md file. The preview shows how the Markdown renders.

Features

  • colspan and rowspan

Merged cells are split into separate cells, either empty or repeating the value, so the columns stay aligned.

  • Formatting kept

    <b>, <i>, <code>, <s> and links become **bold**, *italic*, `code`, ~~strikethrough~~ and [text](url); <br> becomes a line break.

  • Header detection

A <thead> or a first row of <th> cells becomes the header row; tables without one can still use their first row.

  • Safe by design

Scripts, event handlers and javascript: links are removed by the sanitizer, and the markup is only read as text, never rendered.

  • Nested tables

A table inside a cell is listed as a table of its own instead of breaking the outer one.

Limits & privacy

HTML can be up to 10 MB and tables are limited to 50,000 rows.

Markdown tables hold one line per cell: lists, paragraphs and images inside a cell become text separated by line breaks, and colors, widths and CSS classes are dropped. Tables built with <div> elements and CSS grids are not real tables and cannot be detected. Opening a page by URL works only for sites that allow cross-origin requests; otherwise save the page and open the file.

The HTML is never rendered on this page: it is cleaned with DOMPurify and read as text in a Web Worker. See the privacy page.

FAQ

How do I convert an HTML table to Markdown?

Paste the HTML that contains the <table>. The first table is converted at once; choose another one from the list if the page has several.

How do I get the HTML of a table on a web page?

Right-click the table, choose Inspect, then right-click the <table> element and Copy outer HTML. Or open the page by its URL here.

What happens to merged cells?

Markdown cannot merge cells, so a colspan or rowspan cell is split. Choose whether the extra cells are empty or repeat the value.

Are links kept?

Yes, as Markdown links. Links with javascript: or other unsafe schemes are dropped and only their text is kept.

Can I get plain text without Markdown formatting?

Turn off Keep formatting: bold, links and code are written as plain text.

Is the page I paste uploaded?

No. Sanitizing and conversion happen in your browser.
