Files never leave your browserHow?

This CSV to Markdown converter reads comma, semicolon or pipe separated data and writes a GitHub Flavored Markdown table. Paste CSV or drop a file and copy the table.

How it works

  1. Paste or open CSV

Paste CSV text, drop a .csv file, open one from a URL or load the sample. The delimiter and encoding are detected automatically.

  2. Adjust the table

Choose columns and their order, set the alignment for all columns or one by one, and pick padded or compact output.

  3. Copy the Markdown

Copy the result, download it as a .md file, or open it in the table generator to edit cells by hand.

Features

  • Real CSV parsing

Quoted fields with commas, doubled quotes and line breaks are read as one cell, as RFC 4180 describes, and short rows are padded with empty cells.

  • Numbers aligned right

Auto alignment right-aligns columns that contain only numbers, so amounts and counts line up. Override it per column.

  • Safe Markdown

Pipes in the data are escaped as \|, line breaks become <br>, and HTML tags are escaped so a renderer shows them as text.

  • Encodings and delimiters

UTF-8, UTF-16 and Windows-1252 files from Excel are decoded; comma, semicolon, tab and pipe delimiters are recognised.

Limits & privacy

CSV files can be up to 20 MB and are converted up to 50,000 rows. Files above 5 MB are converted from the file without loading them into the editor.

A CSV file is the usual export from a database query, a spreadsheet or an analytics tool, and Markdown is where the numbers end up: a README, a GitHub issue, release notes, a wiki page or a chat message. Pasting raw CSV there shows a wall of commas; a Markdown table renders as a real table and stays readable as plain text. Keep tables you paste into issues short – a few dozen rows – and link the full data instead. For a table with hundreds of columns, compact output avoids very long padded lines.

Markdown tables have a single header row and no merged cells, so the first CSV line always becomes the header. Turn off First row is the header if your file has none: the columns are then named column_1, column_2 and so on. See the privacy page.

FAQ

How do I convert CSV to a Markdown table?

Paste the CSV or open the file. The Markdown table appears on the right; use Copy or Download .MD.

What happens to commas inside quoted values?

They stay in the cell. "Smith, Jane" becomes one cell with Smith, Jane, and doubled quotes become a single quote.

My CSV uses semicolons. Does it work?

Yes. The delimiter is detected from the first lines; you can also choose comma, semicolon, tab or pipe yourself.

How do I make the table compact?

Turn off Align columns. Each cell then has one space around it, which keeps diffs small for very wide tables.

Can I convert the Markdown table back to CSV?

Yes. Use the Markdown → CSV button, which opens the reverse converter with the result.

Is the CSV uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in a Web Worker in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
