This Excel to Markdown converter reads a sheet of an .xlsx, .xls or .ods workbook and writes it as a GitHub Flavored Markdown table. Open the file, pick a sheet and copy the table.

How it works
Open a workbook or paste cells
Choose an .xlsx, .xlsm, .xls or .ods file, open one from a URL, or paste a range copied from Excel or Google Sheets.
Choose the sheet
Pick the worksheet from the list, decide whether the first row is the header and whether values keep their Excel formatting.
Copy the Markdown
Set the alignment, hide columns you do not need, then copy the table or download a .md file.
Features
Values as displayed
Currency, percentages, thousands separators and dates are written the way Excel shows them; turn this off to get the stored values.
Any sheet
Every worksheet is listed with its row count, including hidden ones, so you can convert the one you need.
Formulas as results
Cells with formulas give their last calculated value. Formulas are never evaluated or executed here.
Copy and paste works too
Cells copied from Excel arrive as tab-separated text and are converted without any file; leading zeros stay as typed.
Limits & privacy
Workbooks can be up to 20 MB and tables are limited to 50,000 rows.
Password-protected workbooks cannot be opened. Charts, images, comments, colors and cell styles are not part of a Markdown table and are dropped; bold or italic text becomes plain text. Very wide sheets with dozens of columns render as wide tables on GitHub, so hide columns before copying. Macros in .xlsm files are never run.
The file is processed only in your browser; see the privacy page.
FAQ
How do I convert an Excel sheet to Markdown?
Open the .xlsx file, choose the sheet and copy the Markdown table that appears.
What happens to merged cells?
Markdown has no merged cells: the value stays in the top-left cell of the merged area and the other cells are empty.
Are dates converted correctly?
With Values as displayed on, dates appear in the format of the cell. With it off, they are written as ISO dates such as 2026-01-31.
Can I convert several sheets at once?
Convert one sheet at a time: pick the next sheet in the list and copy again.
Does it support .xls and Google Sheets?
Yes for .xls and .ods files. For Google Sheets, copy the cells and paste them, or download the sheet as .xlsx.
Is my workbook uploaded?
No. It is read by SheetJS in a Web Worker in your browser and never leaves your device.
