How it works

  1. Paste Markdown

Paste one table or a whole document such as a report or README, drop a .md file or open one from a URL.

  2. Check the sheets

All tables go into one workbook, one sheet each; or choose a single table. Number detection and dates can be switched off.

  3. Download .xlsx

Download the workbook and open it in any spreadsheet program.

Features

  • One sheet per table

A report with a revenue table and a headcount table becomes a workbook with two sheets, in the order of the document.

  • Real numbers

Values such as 128000 or 10.5 become numeric cells you can sum and chart; 007 and phone numbers stay text so nothing is lost.

  • Clean cells

Bold, links and code marks are removed, <br> becomes a line break inside the cell, and escaped pipes become plain pipes.

  • Ready to read

The header row is frozen and column widths fit the content. ISO dates can become Excel date cells.

  • No formulas

Every text cell is written as text, so a value like =SUM(A1:A9) in the Markdown can never run as a formula.

Limits & privacy

Markdown files can be up to 20 MB and each sheet is limited to 500,000 rows. Files above 5 MB are converted from the file without loading them into the editor.

Only GFM pipe tables are exported; text between the tables, headings and images are not part of the workbook. Excel limits a cell to 32,767 characters, and longer cells are cut with a warning. To export the cells of one table as CSV instead, use Markdown Table to CSV.

FAQ

How do I convert a Markdown table to Excel?

Paste the Markdown and click Download .XLSX. Open the file in Excel or upload it to Google Sheets.

What happens with several tables?

Each table becomes its own sheet (Table 1, Table 2 …). Pick one table in the list to export only that one.

Are percentages and currency converted to numbers?

No, only plain numbers are. 10.3% and $49 stay text so their meaning is not changed.

Is column alignment kept?

No. Excel aligns numbers right and text left on its own; the colons of the delimiter row are not exported.

Can I open the file in Google Sheets?

Yes. Upload the .xlsx to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets, or import it from Sheets with File › Import.

Does the Markdown leave my computer?

No. The workbook is built in your browser with SheetJS.
