Join lines into one paragraph or a comma-separated list

This tool removes line breaks and joins the lines of a text into continuous paragraphs. Paste text from a PDF, an email or a terminal, choose what replaces each break, and copy the result.

How it works

  1. Paste the broken text

Text from PDFs and old emails often has a line break after every 60–80 characters. Paste it or open the file.

  2. Choose the separator

Replace each break with a space, with nothing, or with your own text such as ", " to turn a column into a list.

  3. Keep what matters

Paragraph breaks stay by default, so you get clean paragraphs instead of one block of text.

Features

  • Paragraph-aware

A blank line marks the end of a paragraph and is kept as a paragraph break; only the breaks inside paragraphs are removed. Turn it off to get a single line.

  • Hyphenated words rejoined

Words split at the end of a line, such as "exam-" and "ple", can be joined back into "example". This happens only when the next line starts with a lowercase letter, so "Jean-" + "Luc" stays hyphenated.

  • No double spaces

Spaces at the start and end of each line are trimmed before joining, so the joined text has exactly one separator between words.

  • Lists to one line

Join a column of values with ", " or "; " for an SQL IN clause, a spreadsheet formula or an email To field. \t inserts a tab.

Limits & privacy

Text and files can be up to 200 MB; files above 8 MB are processed line by line in a background worker. The tool keeps only the previous line in memory, so the size of a paragraph does not matter.

Hyphen joining removes only a hyphen that directly follows a letter at the end of a line. Real compound words that happen to break at their hyphen before a lowercase word (well-known) lose the hyphen too, so review the result when the option is on.

Your text stays in your browser and is never uploaded. See the privacy page.

FAQ

How do I remove line breaks from text copied from a PDF?

Paste the text. With the defaults, line breaks inside paragraphs become spaces and paragraphs stay separated. Turn on "Join words split by a hyphen" if the PDF hyphenated words.

How do I put all lines on one line?

Turn off Keep paragraphs. Every line is then joined with the separator, and blank lines are skipped.

How do I turn a list into comma-separated values?

Choose Custom text as the replacement and type ", ". Each line becomes one item of the list.

Should line breaks be replaced with a space or with nothing?

Use a space for languages that separate words with spaces. Use Nothing for Chinese or Japanese text, where a space would appear in the middle of a sentence.

Does it remove Windows and Mac line breaks too?

Yes. CRLF (Windows), LF (Linux, macOS) and CR (classic Mac OS) are all recognised as line breaks.
