This converter turns the common subset of LaTeX into Markdown: title and sections, emphasis, lists, tabular tables, figures, verbatim code, footnotes and math that stays TeX. Paste .tex source and copy the Markdown.

How it works
Paste LaTeX
Paste a whole document or a fragment, open a .tex file or try the sample.
Choose the style
Display math as $$ or a ```math block, list marker, heading style.
Copy the Markdown
Use it in a README, Obsidian, Jupyter or a blog; formulas render with KaTeX or MathJax.
Features
Math preserved
$…$, \( \), \[ \] and equation, align or gather environments are kept verbatim for KaTeX and MathJax.
Document structure
\title and \author with \maketitle, \section to \subparagraph (the highest level present becomes the top), abstract.
Tables and figures
tabular, longtable and tabularx with column alignment; booktabs rules are understood; captions are kept.
Text details
Accents (\'e), quotes (``…''), dashes, \href, \url, \footnote, \verb and theorem-like environments.
Limits & privacy
Files up to 10 MB. Inputs above 256 KB are converted in a Web Worker. Nothing is uploaded: the conversion runs in your browser, and Open from URL fetches the file directly from the address you enter. See the privacy page.
Limits
Comments (%) are removed. \multicolumn cells become single cells. Unknown commands keep their argument text and are listed in the warnings. Images keep their file paths.
FAQ
Does it convert a whole paper?
It converts the text structure. Bibliographies, custom macros and complex layouts need manual work; warnings list what was skipped.
How are citations converted?
\cite{key} becomes [@key], the pandoc citation syntax; references are not formatted.
What about \ref and labels?
\ref becomes a link to #label; equation and section numbers are not computed.
Are \newcommand macros expanded?
No. Custom macros are not expanded; inside math they are kept as written.
Can I convert Markdown to LaTeX?
Yes, with Markdown → LaTeX, linked above the result.
