AsciiDoc output

Files never leave your browserHow?

This converter rewrites Markdown as AsciiDoc in Asciidoctor syntax: a document title, == sections, [source, lang] blocks, |=== tables, NOTE and WARNING admonitions and footnotes. Paste Markdown and copy the .adoc text.

How it works

  1. Paste Markdown

Paste documentation, open a .md file or try the sample.

  2. Adjust the header

Use the first H1 as the document title, add :toc:, keep or drop raw HTML.

  3. Save as .adoc

Download the file for Asciidoctor, Antora or GitHub, which renders .adoc files too.

Features

  • Matching admonitions

GitHub alerts map one to one: [!TIP] becomes a [TIP] block, [!CAUTION] a [CAUTION] block.

  • Lists with content

Code blocks inside list items are attached with + list continuations, so numbering is not broken.

  • Tables with alignment

Column alignment and the header row are written in a [cols="<,^,>",options="header"] line.

  • Constrained and unconstrained

Bold or italic next to letters switches to **double** marks, which AsciiDoc needs inside words.

Limits & privacy

Files up to 10 MB. Inputs above 256 KB are converted in a Web Worker, so the page stays responsive. Nothing is uploaded: the conversion runs in your browser, and Open from URL fetches the file directly from the address you enter. See the privacy page.

Good to know

Text that would start AsciiDoc formatting (* _ ` # ^ ~, {attribute} references, typographic replacements like (C)) is escaped. Raw HTML is kept as a passthrough block unless you drop it; passthrough only works with the HTML backend.

FAQ

How do I convert Markdown to AsciiDoc?

Paste the Markdown and copy the result, or download it as an .adoc file.

Why does the first heading become = Title?

In AsciiDoc the level-0 heading is the document title. Turn the option off to keep all headings as sections.

Are footnotes supported?

Yes. They become inline footnote:[…] macros at the place of the reference.

What about math?

Formulas become latexmath:[…] and [latexmath] blocks; enable the stem attribute in your Asciidoctor setup.

Can I go back to Markdown?

Yes, AsciiDoc → Markdown is linked above the result.
