Confluence output

Files never leave your browserHow?

This converter turns Markdown into Confluence wiki markup for the Insert markup dialog, or into Confluence storage format (XHTML) for the REST API. Paste or open a .md file and copy the result.

How it works

  1. Paste Markdown

Paste a README or runbook, open a .md file, load one from a URL or try the sample.

  2. Pick the target

Wiki markup for the editor, or storage format for the API; choose how notes and code languages are written.

  3. Copy into Confluence

In the editor press + → Markup → Confluence wiki, paste, and insert. For the API, send the storage XML as the page body.

Features

  • Two output formats

Wiki markup (h2., {code}, ||tables||) and storage format with ac:structured-macro code, info and task-list elements.

  • Notes become macros

GitHub alerts like > [!NOTE] or > [!WARNING] become {info}, {tip}, {note} and {warning} macros instead of plain quotes.

  • Code with language and title

Fenced code keeps its language (mapped to names Confluence highlights) and a title="…" from the info string.

  • Honest warnings

Things Confluence cannot express, such as footnotes or table alignment in wiki markup, are listed under the result.

Limits & privacy

Files up to 10 MB. Inputs above 256 KB are converted in a Web Worker, so the page stays responsive. Nothing is uploaded: the conversion runs in your browser, and Open from URL fetches the file directly from the address you enter. See the privacy page.

What changes on the way to Confluence

Confluence wiki markup reads a single line break inside a paragraph as a forced break, so soft-wrapped Markdown lines are joined with spaces. Lists cannot contain code blocks or a second paragraph: such blocks are placed right after the item and a warning is shown. Markdown footnotes become superscript numbers with notes at the end, because Confluence has no footnote macro.

Images keep their URL; attachments must be uploaded to the page separately. Math is kept as monospace TeX unless your site has a LaTeX app installed.

FAQ

How do I paste Markdown into Confluence?

Convert it here, then in the Confluence editor choose Insert → Markup, select Confluence wiki, paste the text and press Insert.

Does Confluence Cloud support Markdown?

The Cloud editor converts some Markdown while you type, but pasted documents lose tables, code languages and panels. Wiki markup through Insert markup keeps them.

What is the storage format?

It is the XHTML-based format Confluence stores pages in. Use it with the REST API or tools that publish pages from Git.

Are task lists supported?

Yes. In storage format they become real Confluence tasks; wiki markup has no task syntax, so they become ☐ and ☑ characters.

Can I add a table of contents?

Turn on Table of contents to insert the {toc} macro at the top of the page.

Is my document uploaded?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser.
